Obama Pledges Entitlement Reform; Why, whatever could that mean?
Isn't it reassuring to know that you'll be looked after by the beneficent state as your golden years approach? And while our social system is hardly the equal, of say, France or Sweden where immigrants wipe your ass and change your diapers on the government's dime, we do have Social Security to fall back on. Whew - that's a relief, because with all this economic gloom and doom, some could be led to believe that Obama might be forced to take a fucking chainsaw to American entitlements programs.
Well, the wait is over and the other shoe has dropped. The man with the plan intends on doing precisely that:
Noting that the Congressional Budget Office had just estimated he would inherit a $1.2 trillion federal deficit for fiscal 2009, Obama promised to cut unnecessary spending.
"We expect that discussion around entitlements will be a part, a central part of those plans," Obama said at a news conference. "And I would expect that by February in line with the announcement of at least a rough budget outline we will have more to say about how we're going to approach entitlement spending."
Translation: we expect that the discussion around entitlements will lead to an easy decision to cut them heftily. This isn't the Netherlands and we don't give a shit about our citizenry. With almost $60 trillion in unfunded liabilities, we all knew this Ponzi scheme would one day become untenable. By February, you should expect to be receiving 25-30% less than just a year ago. And while you may be "entitled" to something, that doesn't mean you're going to get it. We don't much give a shit because we've got more wars to wage in the Middle East.
Mark my words, entitlement programs will be slashed within two years at the outset. Obama's a crafy motherfucker, but what's happening here doesn't leave much to the imagination. We're broke and can't meet our obligations. Our biggest obligations are Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid. There they go . . . wave goodbye to them as they disappear out of sight.
