'Peace on earth and good will towards man' - God bless us one and all!
So, let's recap what happened this November 28, 2008 - Black Friday:
1. A (temporary) Wal-Mart employee is trampled to death by a crowd of ghouls caught in the throes of a fevered consumptive state. Apparently, these fucking wastes of sperm chose immediate gratification over waiting just a couple minutes more for the scheduled opening, and so they broke down the doors and appeased their Wii-lust by killing an innocent Jamaican man trying to scrape together a few bucks for the holidays. Merry Christmas.
2. Two people were shot dead in a *now get this* Toys 'R Us in Southern California. WTF??!! It's unclear whether the shootings were related to the Black Friday shopping spree, but one thing is clear: only complete douchebags bring handguns to toy stores. At least some good came out of this: the idiots in question managed to kill one another in the melee, sparing the battered US taxpayer two costly trials.
3. A 28-year-old woman nearly suffered a miscarriage in the same Wal-Mart in which the Jamaican employee was killed while and at least three other people were hospitalized for injuries sustained in the line of shopping.
Not only is this a disgrace to the United States of America, but it's a disgrace to all of mankind. What we saw were savage beasts fighting over Xboxes the way Hyenas tear each another apart for scraps of carrion. When I see this kind of behavior, I am convinced that America will implode regardless of the health of our economy or the might of our military. We are an overwhelmingly shallow and sadistic primate whose resemblance to homo-sapiens sapiens is more questionable with each passing day. This isn't just an American problem mind you, but we have taken materialism to a high art.
As the US's world's largest retail outlet, Wal-Mart could easily qualify as the epicenter of the consumer tsunami that has drowned this country in debt, stifled creativity and choked off small business by single-handedly destroying the vital niche it occupies. Anyone who doubts this would do well to consider the $14 trillion dollar pile of consumer debt towering over the heads of every man, woman and child in this god forsaken debtor's nation. We're printing trillions of dollars merely to stay afloat and yet Americans don't possess enough common sense to recognize that creating more debt is no solution to a problem originally wrought from overconsumption and a pre-existing state of indebtedness. And as more Americans fall into a state of virtual debt peonage, the government, working with various retailers, will be forced to collect under threat of imprisonment.
For as much as the MSM has tried to convince us that America has been reborn as a leaner, more frugal country, this disgusting display has demonstrated that we are still every bit the greedy, self-serving and easily manipulated marketing guinea pigs that we were a year ago - if not worse. The ironic thing is that none of the cheap plastic merchandise on sale in Best Buy, Wal-Mart or Toys 'R Us is cheaper than what I can find on Amazon.com or any other online retailer. Think about it: you don't even have to risk miscarriage or even death for a fucking iPod. Like pigs to slaughter.
